Summary:
The Laboratory Manager for the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, managing laboratory schedules, inventory of laboratory supplies, equipment maintenance, research training for undergraduate students, and assisting with laboratory supply orders. The lab manager will also assist in human participant physiology data collections and should be available to work a flexible schedule that aligns with research participant availability. Note: This is a restricted position and the employee acknowledges and understands that the continuation of the position depends on the continuation of funding.

Job-Specific Duties
•Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and regulatory requirements.
•Manage laboratory schedules for shared spaces and coordinate usage with other researchers.
•Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate supply levels.
•Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
•Provide research training to undergraduate students on equipment usage.
•Assist in placing laboratory supply orders.
•Coordinate and schedule human subject research visits.
•Assist with human subject physiology data collections, which may involve phlebotomy straight sticks and IV catheter placement.
•Process biological samples.
•Communicate with other researchers and faculty members within the department.
•Maintain accurate records and documentation for laboratory operations.
•Assist with other duties as assigned.
Job-Specific Education and Experience
Minimum qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in exercise science or physiology related field
•Experience working with human participants in a research setting
•Effective communication skills
•Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred qualifications:
•Trained in phlebotomy with IV catheter placement experience
•Experience working with clinical populations
Job Specific Physical and Cognitive Requirements
Physical demands:
•May require lifting and carrying of laboratory equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs
•May require standing or sitting for extended periods of timeWorking conditions:
•The laboratory manager will work primarily in a laboratory setting, which may involve exposure to biohazardous materials and chemicals
•May require some evening and weekend work in line with research participant availability
Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000
