Job Description:
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study This position is responsible for working with the Student Life Coordinator to plan, implement, facilitate and assess student events including cultural, educational, social, wellness, and volunteerism-based programming both on and off-campus.
Duties and Tasks:
- Advising and training students on program planning, interpersonal relations, leadership and academics.
- serve as a mediator for interpersonal and organizational conflicts among students or between faculty club advisors and student leaders.
- Assist with training student ambassador staff members on event planning and department policies and practices.
- Handles purchasing and ensures proper execution of purchases.
- Generates contracts adhering to NOVA, VCCS, and Commonwealth of Virginia policies procedures and laws.
- Communicates with vendors as needed to be compliant with rules and regulations and to secure the best price for services.
- Develops creative marketing and promotional materials for Student Life events.
- Works a flexible schedule including mornings, nights, and occasional weekends as needed to support Student Life initiatives.
- Assists Student Success staff as needed, and makes referrals to campus and community resources.

- Knowledge of and skills in computer usage, including Microsoft Office Outlook. and the use of the internet to complete research.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish goals and make decisions based on program and institutional policies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various populations orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, execute, and assess activities and programs for college students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff members.
- Ability to advise students on program development and management, purchasing, college policies and procedures, and regulations related to student life programming.
- Ability to supervise and work with students and faculty advisors in campus organizations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate collaborations with student groups, academic departments, administrative departments, and the community.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to plan and implement educational and informational programs in a diverse cultural environment.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/events in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience working collaboratively with a wide variety of college students, faculty, and staff members
- Experience event planning in a college setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, education, social sciences or a related field
- Some experience working with college students in a student life, student activities, diversity and inclusion/multicultural services, or residential life department.
- Some experience advising and overseeing college student organizations.
- Significant experience in event planning
- Purchasing experience, preferably Commonwealth of Virginia purchasing experience using eVA
