Job Description
Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) invites applications for qualified individuals to join our faculty to support the mission and vision of the largest institution of higher education in Virginia. This position is available beginning with the 2023-2024 academic year. The primary responsibility of a faculty member at NOVA is to provide quality instruction. NOVA faculty are expected to excel in teaching strategies and classroom management that fully engage students in a classroom, laboratory, or online platform, and engage students in individual conferences and related activities. NOVA faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity in order to build stronger citizens within the community. All faculty must be available to teach day, evening, and weekend classes at any of the College’s campuses or off-site locations.
*The Northern Virginia Community College Radiation Oncology Clinical Coordinator/Instructor works with program team members at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA via phone, email, Zoom, text, and distance learning technologies on the NOVA Medical Education Campus in Springfield, VA.
Duties and Tasks: Full-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching courses offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning formats. Full-time 9-month teaching faculty carry a normal teaching load of 12-15 credit hours and 15-20 contact hours per semester. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on division/campus/college committees, participate in curriculum development, and maintain currency in their discipline.
Essential Functions: NOVA faculty are expected to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports in a timely manner; teach the courses using established texts; conduct requisite student conferences; hold required office hours; attend to assigned divisional and college duties; contribute to the development of the program of instruction; adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations; answer emails in a responsible fashion; maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization; and advise students.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSAs:
- The ability to effectively teach Health Sciences course concepts in a classroom environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills in the classroom with students, and at the clinical sites with clinical staff members.
- Ability to use and/or willingness to learn instructional technologies, including the Canvas Learning Management System, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, One Drive, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Adobe, Trajecsys Report System, Castlebranch, and the Virtual Environment Radiotherapy Training (VERT) compact simulator software and TrueBeam pendant.
- Ability to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes.
- Teach and continuously update/develop new clinical course materials in the program.
- Adapt teaching to different student learning styles.
- Coordinate and manage student clinical rotations, requiring advanced planning and organization prior to each rotation.
- Perform clinical site visits regularly.
- Help to facilitate distance learning didactic courses that are delivered to students from instructors from Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA.
- Assist with marketing the Radiation Oncology program in the community.
- Facilitate the acquisition of new clinical site partnerships for NOVA radiation therapy students.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records and provide support with the JRCERT accreditation documnetation requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- Associate degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies OR appropriately related education and/or occupational certifications combined with substantial related experience in the occupational field.
- Qualifying degrees must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution.
- Two years of full-time clinical experience in the professional discipline. Part-time experience will be converted to its full-time equivalency.
- One year of experience with students in a JRCERT accredited program.
- Current ARRT certification and registration, or equivalent, in Radiation Therapy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the teaching field or a related field.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Proficiency in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
