Digital Producer
The USA TODAY NETWORK is searching for a digital producer to work in and with The Register-Guard newsroom in Eugene.
A successful candidate should have excellent writing and copy-editing skills with prior digital news or story packaging experience. You must demonstrate strong news judgment to manage homepages and serve as quality control on its content.
Candidates must be detail-oriented and work well under pressure to meet demanding deadlines, as well as demonstrate an understanding of audience metrics and SEO with the goal of growing the audience.
The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator who can work closely with reporters, content coaches, the digital optimization team and newsroom leadership.
Located in the Willamette Valley, Eugene sits about an hour from the beautiful, rugged Oregon Coast. Head north on Interstate 5 to reach Salem, the state capital, in under an hour or Portland in two hours.
The Eugene Airport is only 10 minutes from downtown, and Amtrak rolls right into the city center. Eugene is a robust and vibrant college town with several institutions of higher learning, including the University of Oregon.
Known as Track Town USA, it’s an outdoors-minded community with miles of urban forested trails for hiking and running.
Responsibilities:
- Edit, produce and publish content, optimizing for SEO and digital best practices.
- Manage home pages, programming desktop and mobile, to engage a loyal audience.
- Create engaging, informative social media posts.
- Work with reporters and editors on projects to produce in-depth storytelling packaging.
- Monitor wire services and other media.
- Use metrics to determine traffic patterns and make changes tied to the data. Familiarity with Parsely and Google Analytics products a plus.
- Manage workflow to meet deadlines.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years’ experience working for a daily news organization.
- Solid news judgment.
- Top-notch editing and headline-writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.
- Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry.
- Ability to act calmly and decisively in complex breaking news situations.
- Knowledge of AP style.
- Able to work early morning, night or weekend shifts.
- Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment, post-offer background check.
Candidates with the following are encouraged to apply:
