Position Summary

Elon University seeks a visionary and innovative leader to direct the Department of Physical Therapy Education (DPTE) Clinical Education Program. This leader is responsible for all academic and administrative aspects of the clinical education program, will guide program advancement, and will represent the department within the university and to the clinical community. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator, creative thinker, and embraces the core missions of the program, school, and institution.

The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) Responsibilities:
  • Managing the organization, administration, and continuous review of the clinical education program.
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders to secure clinical rotations.
  • Executing transparent and equitable processes to place students in clinical rotations that meet their educational needs.
  • Supporting a healthy, diverse, equitable, and inclusive community
  • Educating and monitoring students during a series of 4 clinical rotations and maintaining contact with clinical instructors.
  • Managing student clinical education concerns including remediation and termination as necessary.
  • Leading the clinical education team and Clinical Education Committee.
  • Is responsible for all clinical education activities related to CAPTE accreditation.
  • Additional responsibilities include department, school, and university service; scholarly activity; and teaching clinical education preparation courses within the curriculum.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • A terminal degree: post-professional doctorate or DPT with evidence of other professional qualifications (including but not limited to ABPTS or other specialty certification, or additional degree)
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical practice
  • Eligibility for licensure as a physical therapist in North Carolina
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical education (SCCE, CI, DCE, or ADCE) OR a minimum of 1 year of clinical education experience with an additional 2 years of teaching
  • Completion or commitment to completion of the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 1
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem- solving, and counseling skills
  • A commitment to innovation, excellence, and engaged learning

    Preferred Education and Experience

  • Prior experience as a DCE/ADCE/ACCE or SCCE
  • Managerial and/or administrative experience
  • Prior teaching experience in an academic program
  • Record of scholarship/research
  • Completion of the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 2
